Greenville Drive News Release
Greenville, S.C. - The Greenville Drive announced today that West End Field will be smoke-free when the ballpark re-opens for the 2007 Season on Thursday, April 9th.
"The Drive is about providing an enjoyable, family friendly experience for all our guests" commented Drive co-owner and President Craig Brown, "and this step is consistent with our on-going commitment to enhancing the quality of life here in Greenville."
The Drive's decision to have West End Field a smoke-free environment coincides with the City of Greenville's voluntary smoking ban. Eighty-six percent of the city's 289 restaurants and bars have agreed to abide by the ban, while others have initiated partial bans.
"We are delighted that the Greenville Drive has decided to be smoke free. Since the inception of the smoking ban passed by the City Council, it has been clear that a smoke free environment is good for business," stated Greenville City Manager Jim Bourey. "The City and the Greenville Drive have had a wonderful partnership and this demonstrates the Drive's commitment to being a responsible corporate citizen. We encourage all fans to come to West End Field and "Breathe Easy"."
Those that do wish to smoke during a Drive game will be able to exit the ballpark at either the Main Street or Field Street gates, and smoke outside of the stadium. Fans that do leave West End Field will receive a hand stamp so that they may regain entrance.
"The Drive wish to cater to all our fans while remaining fan friendly," said Drive General Manager Mike deMaine. "Therefore we have developed a procedure to accommodate those fans that choose to smoke at West End Field."
Opening Day at West End Field is Monday, April 9th, as the Drive are slated to host the Columbus Catfish at 7:05 PM. To purchase single-game tickets or one of the Drive's many season ticket packages, visit the Drive's website at www.GreenvilleDrive.com or by calling the front office at (864) 240-4500.
