Breakers partner with SoccerGrlProbs

HANOVER, Mass. (Dec. 15, 2014) - The Boston Breakers remain active both on and off the field. Here is a look at the most recent team and player news.

Monday, the club announced an exciting new partnership with SoccerGrlProbs. The Breakers and SoccerGrlProbs will be collaborating on several ventures for 2015 season, including joint videos.

"A lot of our fans, academy players and pro players follow Soccer Girl Probs on social media, and we thought it would be a great idea to see if we could work together on some different projects," Boston Breakers Marketing and Design Director Seve Hirst said. "We are looking to do more videos and have more interaction with our fans, so hopefully this collaboration can lead to some funny videos for everyone to enjoy."

* Over the weekend, a handful of Breakers were active in international and club competitions. In Brazil, 2014 National Women's Soccer League Goalkeeper of the Year Alyssa Naeher and the U.S. Women's National Team and Andressa Alves and Brazil are playing in the International Tournament of Brasilia/Torneio Internacional de Brasilia. Sunday, Brazil beat the U.S., 3-2, behind a hat trick from Marta. Andressa Alves played 80 minutes for Brazil.

Both teams kicked off the tournament on Wednesday, Dec. 10. The U.S. played China PR to a 1-1 draw in the first game. Brazil opened the tournament with a 4-0 win over Argentina. Andressa Alves played all 90 minutes in the match. The U.S. and Brazil round out the group stage Wednesday, Dec. 17 with matches against Argentina (4:20 p.m. ET) and China PR (7 p.m. ET), respectively. The top two teams in the group advance to the championship, which is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 21, at 4 p.m. ET. The third- and fourth-place teams in the group stage play in the third-place match Dec. 21 (1 p.m. ET).

* In Japan, Breakers midfielder Kristie Mewis and Iga FC Kunoichi beat Saitama, 3-1, in the third round of the Empress Cup. Mewis scored two goals, including the game-winner. Mewis has five goals in four games for Iga. With the win over Saitama, Iga advances to the Dec. 21 quarterfinals to face Urawa Red Diamonds Ladies. The winner in the quarterfinals moves on to the Dec. 28 semifinals. The 36th Empress Cup final is scheduled for Jan. 1, 2015. Iga is seeking its third Empress Cup title, having won in 2001 and in 1998, when the club was named Prima Ham FC K unoichi. Iga opened this year's Empress Cup on Dec. 6 with a 4-0 win over JEF United Ichihara Chiba Ladies. Mewis scored two goals in the victory.

* Francielle and Andressa Alves won the Nestle Cup International Women's Club Championship on Dec. 6 with S=E3o José Esporte Clube. The team beat Arsenal, 2-0, in the finals, just days after blanking Urawa Reds, 1-0, in the semifinals. The tournament was held in Tokyo and also featured Melbourne Victory (Australia), Okayama Yunogo Belle (Japan), and Jiangsu Huatai (China).
