Boston Breakers News Release
The Boston Breakers take on the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) at the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentiria (BBVA) Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas (9 p.m. EST kickoff). This is the second-to-last of the Breakers seven consecutive away matches.
The teams have met once this season and the Breakers are hoping for a rally win. The Houston Dash is only one spot above the Breakers in the NWSL standings with a record of 4-10-1 similar to the Breakers of 3-11-2.
Back on April 20th, the Breakers hosted the Dash at Harvard Stadium but suffered a defeat (3-2) after holding the lead throughout the first half. Heather O'Reilly scored her 10th goal in her professional career as well as the first goal of the game for the Breakers. Joanna Lohman scored the second of the Breakers goals off of a left-food cross from O'Reilly in the 70th minute. But, it was Teresa Noyola who scored the second goal for the Dash followed by the game-winning goal in the 85th minute on a penalty kick.
O'Reilly is currently in tenth place in the NWSL for shots as well as fifth place for shots on goal. She has played in 14 out of the 16 games this season and has had four goals and one assist. Courtney Jones, defender for the Breakers, received a yellow card in the last match against Houston and holds the first spot for cautions in the league along with Dash forward, Ella Masar.
Noyola has had three goals this season, two of which she received last match between the two teams. The Breakers own, Alyssa Naeher, has the most saves in the league with 70, but Houston Dash goalkeeper, Erin McLeod is not far behind with 57.
Nine days after the match on April 20th, defender/midfielder, Nikki Washington was traded from the Houston Dash to the Boston Breakers in exchange for Kaylyn Kyle, midfielder. Since her arrival in the Boston, Washington has played in ten out of the 16 games and started in six. Kyle has played and started in 11 out of the 15 games played for the Dash and has one assist under her belt.
You can watch the Breakers fight their way to victory against the Houston Dash this Friday from BBVA Compass Stadium via the YouTube live stream (kickoff 9 p.m.).
