Breakers Forward Jazmine Reeves Announces Retirement

HANOVER, Mass. (Nov. 6, 2014) - Boston Breakers forward Jazmine Reeves announced today her retirement from professional soccer. Reeves, 22, retires after playing just one season in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL).

"Leaving Boston was definitely one of the harder decisions I have had to make," Reeves said. "I really enjoyed my time with the Breakers, and I am very thankful for the experience. When I was presented with the opportunity to work for such an amazing company in Amazon, I felt it was something that I simply could not pass up."

"With this being said, the Breakers organization and fans will always be special to me," Reeves added. "I would like to thank everyone who had a part in making it something that I will never forget."

As a rookie in 2014, Reeves scored seven goals, the second highest total on the Breakers. The Dover, Del. native also added one assist and started 13 of the 17 games she appeared in, logging 1,151 minutes. Named the Boston Breakers Rookie of the Year, Reeves' best game came on May 28, when she scored a hat trick against Portland Thorns FC.

An alum of Virginia Tech, Reeves scored 11 goals and was a Hermann Trophy semifinalist in her senior season for the Hokies.

"Obviously, we are very disappointed to be losing Jazmine, but we understand what a great opportunity she has been presented with at Amazon," Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. "Following an impressive college career and rookie season in the NWSL, we had hoped to bring her back this season but should she ever wish to return, there will always be a place for her with the Breakers. We wish her all the best."

The Breakers selected Reeves in the third round (No. 21 overall) of the 2014 NWSL College Draft. Reeves was the first-ever Virginia Tech player drafted into the NWSL.
