Boston Breakers News Release
In their final match of the 2014 NWSL season, the Boston Breakers will take on the Houston Dash this Sunday evening at Harvard Stadium. The teams are set to kickoff at 6:30 p.m. EST and the game will mark the two squads' third and final meeting of the year, as the Breakers look to earn their first win against Houston this season.
The Breakers will enter the match coming off a 2-0 loss to the Chicago Red Stars while on the road earlier this week. Houston too comes in off a loss after falling to Sky Blue FC 3-1 last Saturday evening.
In the teams' first square off, Houston ousted Boston 3-2 back on April 20 during the Breakers' first home game of the season. The win marked Houston's first victory in club history. Breakers' midfielder Heather O'Reilly 1 tallied the first Boston goal unassisted, while Joanna Lohman finished the second. Houston goals were put away by Ella Masar in the 50th minute, Teresa Noyola with one in the 81st minute followed by a second in the 85th.
On July 11, Boston fell to the Dash 2-1 at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston. Boston's Katie Schoepfer scored the Breakers' lone goal in that match off an assist from O'Reilly while Houston's Kealia Ohai tallied both goals for the Dash.
Houston and Boston stand in 8th and 9th place in the NWSL respectively, and both are out of contention for a slot in the 2014 Playoffs. So far this season, Boston keeper Alyssa Naeher leads the league in saves with 102, while Houston's Erin McLeod stands behind at 2nd in the league with 79 saves on the season.
