
Breakers, CyberRays To Play Exhibition In Las Vegas

NEEDHAM, MA (March 18, 2003) - The Boston Breakers will play the San Jose CyberRays on Saturday, March 22, in a WUSA exhibition match at Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Breakers and CyberRays will meet at Peter Johann Memorial Field (10:30 ET) on the campus of the University of Nevada-Las Vegas. The WUSA exhibition match is the feature event of the Las Vegas College Showcase, a two-day tournament in which elite girls teams from across the nation will compete before friends, family and top college coaches. The annual soccer weekend is staged by the UNLV Women's Sports Foundation to benefit female student-athletes and women's sports programs at the school.
The event also will include a 10:30 a.m. clinic Saturday for girls 5 to 14 years old conducted by Breakers and CyberRays players. The Silver State Girls Soccer League will sponsor the clinic.
General admission tickets for the match are $15 each and are available online at www.unlvtickets.com.
The Breakers will leave for Las Vegas on Friday, March 21st and return to Boston and train at Nickerson Field on March 27th. The Breakers practice times are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Breakers To Play the Washington Freedom
The Breakers final exhibition match of the 2003 preseason is against the Washington Freedom. The match will take place on March 30th (4 p.m.) at the 2003 Kicks Against Breast Cancer women's soccer tournament at the Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown, Maryland. Tickets for the Breakers/Freedom match can be purchased online at www.kicksagainstbreastcanc.com.
Algarve Update
The U.S. Women's National Team tied Sweden, 1-1, today behind a goal by Aly Wagner. All three Breakers - Kristine Lilly, Kate Sobrero and Angela Hucles - played in the match. The U.S. will play China in the final on Thursday, March 20 at 1 p.m. (ET) ... Breakers forward Dagny Mellgren continues her hot streak in Portugal. Mellgren scored today in Norway's 1-0 victory over Canada at the Algarve Cup. She has now scored two goals in three games ... Karina LeBlanc, the Breakers starting goalkeeper, has started all three matches for Canada. She has helped Canada post a 0-1-2 record ... ... Stéphanie Mugneret-Beghe has played in all three games for France. She scored the game-winning goal against Denmark in the first match of the tournament.
Corner Kicks
The Breakers are 19 days away from the season opener against San Diego at Torero Stadium in San Diego ... All seven of the Breakers players in Portugal will return on Friday, March 21st ... The Breakers have invited former Atlanta Beat defender Lisa Krzykowski into training for a tryout. The Wisconsin native was waived by Atlanta on Monday and will arrive in Boston tomorrow. Krzykowski was drafted in the seventh round of the inaugural WUSA draft by the Beat. She played in 31 games, starting 27 and she started all three of the Beat's postseason contests. Krzykowski notched one goal and four assists for six points in her two-year career ... Rookies Devvyn Hawkins and Sarah Popper played 90 minutes at midfield in the Breakers 4-1 loss to New York last Saturday in Connecticut ... Jena Kluegel started the match in the back but was moved midway through the second half to the midfield ... Rookie Marcia Wallis played the second half alongside Maren Meinert ... Meinert set up the Breakers only goal with a beautiful chip over the New York defense that sent tryout player Kim Patrick in alone ... The Breakers have only been outside on a field nine times during preseason.
PA Announcer Tryout
The Boston Breakers will hold a tryout for the position for the Stadium Public Address Announcer for the 2003 season on Thursday, March 20th at 7 p.m. More than 60 people signed up for the audition, but only the first 35 were invited to participate. Hopefuls will be asked to read the Breakers starting line-up and other scripted pieces over a sound system in front of a public audience at Galyan's Sporting Goods Store in Danvers. Several Breakers players, along with President and General Manager Joe Cummings, will be on hand for judging. The event will be emceed by JAMN 94.5 afternoon rock jock Kobe.

The Boston Breakers will play 10 of their 11 home matches at Boston University's Nickerson Field. Single game tickets for the Breakers regular-season home matches are priced at $26, $17 and $12.
