Breakers Back Home at Harvard to Face Flash

August 1, 2014 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL)
Boston Breakers News Release

Coming off a 4-2 victory over the Western New York Flash last Friday in Rochester, the Boston Breakers will return home to Harvard Stadium Sunday night (kickoff 6:30 pm ET) in hopes of producing a similar result as they face the Flash for the second time in just over a week.

Last week's road win ended a seven game winless streak for Boston and marked the team's fourth victory of the year. With five matches left to play in the 2014 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) season, Boston stands at 4-13-2 while Western New York carries a record of 7-10-3 with just three regular season games remaining.

In last week's matchup, the Breakers came back from an early 1-0 deficit to score three first half goals. The Flash answered with a goal early in the second half to put the game at 3-2, but Boston proceeded to score once more to earn the 4-2 win.

The Flash were without forward Abby Wambach last week, but on Thursday night when Western New York squared off against Sky Blue FC, the USWNT star made her first appearance on the pitch since May 31. Wambach led the team with six shots that evening, while fellow Flash and USWNT teammate Carli Lloyd ranks fourth in the league for 49 shots tallied on the season. Boston midfielder Heather O'Reilly and fellow USWNT teammate to Wambach and Lloyd ranks ninth in the NWSL with 43.

Boston goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher leads the league with 82 saves on the season. She will face off against Flash keeper Kelsey Wys, who has tallied 30 saves so far this year.

Boston is out of contention for a playoff spot this season, but as Western New York wraps up this two-game road trip Sunday evening, they will look to stay in contention for a position.

Fans can keep track of the action from Sunday's game live on YouTube. Following the Western New York match, the Breakers will take on FC Kansas City on Wednesday, August 6th at Verizon Wireless Field at Durwood Stadium (kickoff 7 p.m. CT).
