Braves can't get it done against Bulls

Richmond, VA - The Durham Bulls beat the Richmond Braves 5-2 Monday at The Diamond. The Bulls blanked the Braves over the final eight innings to earn a sweep of the two game series.

The Bulls grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a leadoff home run by Ben Weber. Richmond bounced back in the home half to score twice. Scott Thorman smacked a home run. Mark Jurich knocked in a run with a single. The Bulls moved back in front to stay in the third inning, scoring three times. Justin Ruggiano singled a run home. Joel Guzman knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. Reid Brignac capped the rally with a run scoring single. The Bulls tacked on a run in the seventh on a Dan Johnson sacrifice fly.

Ben Hendrickson earned the win. Scott Dohmann notched a save. Jerome Gamble took the loss. Weber had three hits for the Bulls. Diory Hernandez and Enrique Cruz had two hits each for the Braves.

Richmond opens a five game home and home series with Norfolk Tuesday at Harbor Park at 7:15. Chuck James is slated to pitch for the Braves against Chris Waters. The Braves return home to face the Tides Friday, July 4. That game is sold out but tickets still remain for the July 5 Fireworks Extravaganza.
