Bravehearts Win Fourth In a Row
July 6, 2016 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Worcester Bravehearts News Release
NASHUA, NH - The Bravehearts have played a lot of baseball so far this week. After a double header on Monday and a 12-inning game yesterday, the Worcester Bravehearts (21-8) breezed through their road game against the Nashua Silver Knights (19-11) in just over two hours. As the Bravehaerts tacked on four first inning runs, they finished the game with a 4-3 victory at Holman Stadium in Nashua. This marked the fourth straight win for the Bravehearts.
As previously mentioned, Worcester jumped all over Nashua starter Mike Geannelis (UMass/Williamstown, MA) for four runs to start the game. Geannelis lasted 7 1/3 innings, giving up four runs on five hits, walking one and striking out three. Contributions from Mike Coggeshall (Assumption/Shrewsbury, MA) with a sacrifice fly, Dante Ricciardi (St.
Petersburg/West Boylston, MA) with a two-run triple, and Matt Diesel (Felecian/Massapequa, N.Y.) with a RBI-double would be the only runs that the Braveherarts would plate in this game.
That would be just enough for Worcester starter Greg Stagani (West Liberty/Richmond, OH) to collect his thrid win of the summer. Stagani (3-1) went five full innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out five Silver Knights.
Nashua got all three of their runs in the fifth inning, including back-to-back RBI doubles from Harry Roberson (Amherst College/Arlington, MA) and Yanni Thanopoulas (Amherst College/Highland, CA).
The Bravehears bullpen shut the Silver Knight offense down the rest of the game, only allowing one hit through the final four innings of the game. Pat McGowan (Holy Cross/Wellesley, MA) went 2 2/3 innings, followed by Peter Bovenzi (Belmont/Lunenburg, MA) who finished the final 1 1/3 innings to collect his third save of the summer.
The Worcester Bravehearts next game is on Thursday, July 7th at 7:05pm, as they play host to the Torrington Titans at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field in Worcester. Tickets for all future Bravehearts home games are available at the Hanover Insurance Field box office, online at worcesterbravehearts.com, or by calling 508-438-3773.
