Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the Vermont Lake Monsters Sunday night at Fitton Field in game two of the Futures Collegiate Baseball League semifinals, 4-3.
The Lake Monsters got on the board in the first, recording three runs on two hits, two walks, and a hit by pitch. Worcester cut the lead to 3-2 in the third behind singles from Zach DeMattio (Wheaton), Kenny Mallory Jr. (Vanderbilt), Lewis Barnum (Bryant), and Gavin Noriega (Marist).
Vermont tacked on another run in the sixth, walking in a run with the bases loaded. The 'Hearts cut the lead back to 4-3 in the eighth after Barnum reached on an error and was driven in by a Noriega double.
The Bravehearts infield contingent of Matt Shaw (Maryland), Barnum, and Noriega turned three double plays, saving multiple runs from scoring throughout the game.
Max LeBlanc (UMass Amherst) was tagged with the loss for Worcester, allowing three runs on two hits and two walks. Vermont's Patrick Harrington (Assumption) earned the win after six innings of work in which he allowed two runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out eight. Wyatt Cameron (New England) got the save after one inning in which he allowed one hit while striking out one.
