Bravehearts Swarmed by Bees

NEW BRITAIN, CT- The Bravehearts lost 6-3 to the New Britain Bees on Sunday, making their overall record for the season 15-18.

The Bravehearts put their first run up on the board early, scoring a run in the top of the second inning. The score would stay 1-0 until the bottom of the third inning when the Bees pushed across a run of their own to even out the score. The score would remain at 1-1 until the top of the sixth inning when the 'Hearts would score another two runs on back-to-back line drives to center field making the score 3-1. The Bees retaliated in the bottom half of the sixth inning and scored two runs of their own, tying up the score once again at 3-3. The Bees took the lead for the first time in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring two runs to make the score 5-3. The Bees would push across one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning to widen their lead, making the score 6-3. The Bravehearts were unable to push across anymore runs of their own, making the final score 6-3 with the New Britain Bees taking the win.

Auburn native, Clay Robbins (Southern Maine), started pitching for the Bravehearts. Robbins had no walks and got five strikeouts for the Bravehearts. He was relieved by losing pitcher and Grafton Native, Axel Johnson (Stevens Institute of Technology), in the bottom of the seventh inning. Johnson, who pitched for one inning, gave up two walks and got two strikeouts before he was also relieved in the bottom of the eighth inning by Tommy Leimkuhler (Holy Cross). Leimkuhler only pitched for one inning during which he gave up one walk and got one strikeout.

The Bravehearts' next game will be in Nashua, NH on Monday, July 4th at 11:00 a.m. against the Nashua Silver Knights. The 'Hearts will return home on Saturday, July 9th to face off against the Brockton Rox at 1:00 p.m.
