NORWICH, CT- The Bravehearts lost 4-0 to the Pittsfield Suns on Sunday, making their overall record for the season 11-10.
The Bravehearts came out early and scored 3 runs in the first inning. The Bravehearts scored another two runs in the second inning, making the score 5-0. The Sea Unicorns retaliated in the bottom half of the inning and scored 2 runs of their own, making the score 5-2. The score would remain at 5-2 until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Sea Unicorns scored another 4 runs, giving them the lead and making the score 6-5. The Bravehearts were able to score another run in the top of the sixth inning to tie up the game at 6-6. The score would remain tied at six until the bottom of the ninth inning when the Sea Unicorns managed to push across one final run to end the game 7-6.
The Bravehearts went through several pitchers throughout the game. Ben Smith (Worcester State) started pitching for the Bravehearts. Smith walked one batter and got five strikeouts for the Bravehearts. Smith was relieved by Matt Pizzelli (Wheaton) in the bottom of the fifth inning. Pizzelli gave up three walks and got four strikeouts before he was also relieved later in the bottom of the fifth inning by Nate Novia (AIC) who also gave up three walks and got 4 strikeouts. Losing pitcher, Axel Johnson (Stevens), came in to close in the bottom of the seventh inning and gave up two walks and got five strikeouts before being relieved in the bottom of the ninth inning by Worcester native, Jared Kapurch (St. Petersburg).
The Bravehearts' next game will be in Norwich, CT on Friday, June 3rd at 6:30 p.m. against the Norwich Sea Unicorns. The 'Hearts will return home on Saturday, June 4th to face off against the Brockton Rox at 6:30 p.m.
