Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Westfield MA - The Westfield Starfires were able to pull out a 5-0 victory over the Worcester Bravehearts on Friday Night. With the win, the Starfires pull within a half game of Worcester for the fourth and final playoff spot.
After four scoreless innings, it was the Starfires who struck first in the fifth inning. Cole Bartels (Penn State) scored on a Dan Hussey (Central Connecticut) RBI single, followed by a sac-fly by Kosta Drosidis (Anna Maria) giving Westfield a 2-0 lead.
The Bravehearts best chance came in the sixth inning. With the bases loaded and one out Matt Maloney (Dayton) grounded to the second baseman. The second baseman and the runner Lewis Barnum (Bryant) collided and the umpire called Barnum out going to second base. The runners then had to return to their bases and Sebastian Salado (Palm Beach Atlantic) grounded out to end the inning.
The Starfires would add three more in the 7th to eventually pull ahead 5-0 and that is where the lead would stay.
The Bravehearts return home tomorrow to take on the Pittsfield Suns with first pitch at 6:30 pm.
