Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the Pittsfield Suns 3-0 Thursday afternoon at Fitton Field. With the loss, Worcester moves to 15-14, while Pittsfield moves to 19-11 with the win.
Pittsfield got out to an early lead in the first, tagging 'Hearts starter Bryce Afthim (Southern Maine) for two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk. Afthim would find his footing through the next four frames, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out seven. The Suns would add to their lead in the sixth after an RBI single by Alex Aguila (Appalachian State) off of Bravehearts reliever and Auburn native Michael Bean (Merrimack).
Worcester loaded the bases but were unable to score in the fourth inning after a walk to Gavin Noriega (Marist) and singles by Tayven Kelley (Penn State) and Alex Neff (Dayton).
Brett Wozniak (Kansas State) got the win for Pittsfield after six shutout innings, allowing just four hits and one walk while racking up nine strikeouts. Afthim was tagged with the loss for the Bravehearts after allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks, while striking out seven. Suns closer Ryan Langford (Florida Southern) got the save after locking down the ninth, solidifying the Pittsfield win.
Worcester heads to Norwich on Friday July 2nd for a 6:30 p.m. game, and return to Fitton Field Wednesday July 7th to face the Westfield Starfires for a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m. The first game will be nine innings, followed by a seven inning game thirty minutes after.
