Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts defeated the Nashua Silver Knights in the first game of a home-and-home series 5-0 at Fitton Field Friday night.
The win makes Worcester's overall record 2-1, while Nashua drops to 1-2 on the season.
Friday's game, in front of a crowd of 2,530 fans, was the Bravehearts' opening night game following a Wednesday morning season opener earlier in the week. It is the first of five Friday fireworks games which feature a display following the end of the game.
Worcester got on the scoreboard in the first inning. After Tyler Bastunas (Drury) walked, he scored on a wild pitch by the Silver Knights' Erik Sibbach (Stevens Institute). Following a single by Antonio Morales (Wake Forest), Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) and Caden Dulin (Rowan) scored to bring the Bravehearts an early three-run lead.
Nashua threatened in the seventh, when Shane McNamara (Eastern Nazarene) hit a double off the Bravehearts' Max LeBlanc (University of Massachusetts Amherst), followed by a single by Jake Hatch (Emerson) which put McNamara in scoring position with no outs. However, two subsequent strikeouts and a flyout to the second baseman quickly ended the inning scoreless for Nashua.
Worcester added insurance in the fourth, with Matt Milone (SUNY Maritime) scoring on an error by Nashua's catcher. Worcester tacked on another run in the eighth, with Kebler Peralta (Marshall) scoring on a single hit by Bastunas, bringing the final score to 5-0.
Bravehearts starter Clay Robbins (Southern Maine) earned the win for Worcester, tossing six scoreless innings while allowing two hits and no walks, striking out eight. The losing pitcher was Sibbach, who let up three hits and three runs in 3.2 innings.
The Bravehearts will be on the road against the Silver Knights tomorrow in Nashua for a 6:00 p.m. matchup. The 'Hearts will be back at Fitton Field early Monday afternoon for a Memorial Day performance against the New Britain Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
