Bravehearts Fall to Undefeated Bees

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the New Britain Bees 4-2 Monday afternoon in a Memorial Day matinee.

The loss drops Worcester's overall record to 3-2, while New Britain continues their undefeated start to 5-0.

The Bees promptly took the lead in the first inning. New Britain loaded the bases with one single and two walks off Bravehearts starting pitcher Francisco Minaya (Calhoun). Gavin Greger (Univ. of Connecticut) scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch. Tanner Santos (Babson) then came home on a wild pitch and Bryce Molinaro (St. John's) crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Aidan Cohall (St. John's) to give New Britain a 3-0 advantage.

The Bravehearts challenged New Britain's lead several times throughout the game. The first threat came in the fourth, when Marc Willi (Michigan) hit a solo home run off Bees starter Kyle Keating (Assumption). Despite singles by Vincent Eramo (Fitchburg State) and Andrew Chronister (Shippensburg), Worcester was unable to score again in the inning.

The Bees further stung the 'Hearts in the sixth, when Christian Scanlon (Merrimack) tacked on a fourth run for New Britain by advancing to third and scoring on two Worcester errors.

In the seventh, the Bravehearts cut into the Bees' lead when Kobe Stenson (Siena) scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-2.

Worcester put a pair of baserunners on in the bottom of the ninth but could score neither.

New Britain starter Dylan Scudder (Eastern Conn. State) earned the win, letting up four hits and one run in three innings. The losing pitcher was Worcester's Minaya, who allowed one hit and three runs in one inning.

The Bravehearts will be back at Fitton Field Tuesday for an evening performance against the Brockton Rox. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
