Worcester Bravehearts News Release

Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts triumphed over the Vermont Lake Monsters 7-5 during Game 2 of the Futures League Semifinals on Friday. The win guarantees a third playoff game, as the teams are now tied 1-1 in the best-of-three series.

Worcester broke open in the bottom of the second, when a Jack Thorbahn (Northeastern) doubled, bringing home Nathan Samii (Middlebury) and Daniel Bucciero (Fordham).

The top of the second saw a run for the Lake Monsters, when Tommy Martin (Yale) singled, allowing Kyle Lodise (Augusta) to cross the plate. This narrowed Worcester's lead by one run.

The 'Hearts soon widened the gap in the bottom of the same inning, when a Samii triple brought in two additional runs with Florides and Chronister (Shippensburg) scoring. A final run of the inning was scored with a sac-fly by Tyler Bastunas (Drury), which gave Samii an opportunity to score. This made the score 5-1

Vermont soon went back on the offensive, scoring one run in the fourth on a bases-loaded walk. This was followed by Jordan Kang (Harvard) and Jack Winnay (Wake Forest) crossing home on a sac-fly hit off Khal Coney's (Trinity) bat.

The 'Hearts continued to tack on runs, both scored on home runs. The first, hit by Vincent Eramo (Fitchburg State) in the fifth, brought in one run. The second homer of the game was hit by Bucciero in the seventh.

Worcester coasted on the 7-4 lead until the top of the ninth when the Lake Monsters took the offensive. After a walk, a hit, and an additional walk, the bases were soon loaded on two outs. A wild pitch allowed Kang to cross home, making the score 7-5. However, Vermont could not beat Worcester, for Teddy Schoenfield (MIT) grounded out.

The winning pitcher was Bravehearts reliever Jack Beauchesne (Northeastern) who allowed three hits and no runs in two innings pitched. The save went to closer Dylan Vigue (Michigan), who let up one run and one hit in the bottom of the ninth. The losing pitcher was Vermont starter Francis Ferguson (Eastern Nazarene), who allowed three hits and five runs in two innings.

The win necessitates a third playoff game, which will be played Saturday in Burlington at Centennial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the Futures' League championship, against the Norwich Sea Unicorns, who beat the New Britain Bees for the championship on Friday.
