Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts fell to the Pittsfield Suns 7-3, dropping their record to 28-31. Due to a Westfield Starfires loss, the Bravehearts are still holding on to the final playoff spot in the Futures League by half a game.
Pittsfield put two runs up on the board in the first inning, on RBI singles by Brendan Jones (Kansas State) and Nate Cormier (Nichols College). They would add a third run in the fourth inning on a wild pitch. The Bravehearts fought back in the fifth inning, scoring their first run of the game on a Gavin Noriega (Marist) RBI single.
The Suns would score three more runs in the seventh, highlighted by a Jones RBI double and Billy Minett (St. Thomas Aquinas) RBI single. In the bottom half of the inning the Bravehearts scored two runs of their own. After a leadoff single, Lewis Barnum (Bryant) scored on a ground out. Shrewsbury's Nick Martin (Westfield State) scored later in the inning on a Mark Darakjy (Northeastern) RBI single. Brendan Jones would add a run in the eighth for Pittsfield, with another RBI double.
Suns starting pitcher Kyle Roche (Franklin Pierce) picked up the win. He went five innings, struck out six batters, and allowed just one run. Bravehearts starter Jack Choate (Assumption) was given the loss after just one inning pitched. He struck out three, while allowing two runs.
The Bravehearts travel to Brockton on Sunday for a doubleheader against the Rox. First pitch from Campanelli Stadium for the first game is at 1:30pm.
