Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA - The Worcester Bravehearts batted their way to a 13-6 win Wednesday over the New Britain Bees.
Worcester moves to 23-31 while New Britain slips to 30-24.
The 'Hearts got on the board quickly with a three-run first inning. An error allowed Lewis Barnum (Bryant) to score. Sebastian Mexico (Fordham) hit an RBI single to bring in Gavin Noriega (Marist). Andrew Chronister (Shippensburg) capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to score Jake Marquez (Maine).
New Britain answered with two runs in the second. An RBI double by Teddy Schoenfield (MIT) drove in Mark Coley (Rhode Island). Schoenfield scored on another RBI double from Elliot Good (Central CT State).
A Barnum grand slam in the bottom of the fourth extended the lead for the Bravehearts, also scoring Chronister, Mark Darakjy (Northeastern), and Cam Caraher (Southern New Hampshire).
Three more runs would come across for Worcester in the seventh. Noreiga scored on an RBI single by Cam Seymour (Southern Maine). Matty Warren (Palm Beach Atlantic) joined in on the fun with a two-run double to score Seymour and Chronister.
Seymour put an exclamation point on the Bravehearts scoring with a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth that also brought in Noriega and Caraher.
New Britain scored three times in the top of the eighth. An RBI single by Good scored Coley and CJ Brito-Trinidad (Bowdoin), and a Jason Claiborn (Eastern CT State) sacrifice fly brought in Schoenfield. The Bees scored another run in the ninth when Mike Torniero (Central CT State) scored on a fielder's choice.
Bravehearts starter Sean Scanlon (Holy Cross) picked up the win, giving up two earned runs in five innings on four hits and four walks, striking out two. The loss went to New Britain's Tim Wainwright (Central CT State). In two innings, Wainwright gave up three runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks.
The Bravehearts are back at Fitton Field Friday evening for another meeting with the New Britain Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35.
