May 28, 2019 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL)
Worcester Bravehearts News Release
Worcester, MA: The Worcester Bravehearts and Saint Vincent Hospital announced today that the two organizations will team up to help stock the shelves at Worcester County Food Bank this Summer. Saint Vincent Hospital's annual Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive will make a stop at Bravehearts opening night this Thursday, May 30th at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. The game starts at 6:35 PM.
The Worcester County Food Bank (WCFB) and Saint Vincent Hospital table will be one of the first sights fans see as they enter the stadium at the inaugural game of the 2019 season as volunteers will attempt to collect as much cereal as they can on day one of the hospital's annual cereal drive to help make ensure enough supply food for the summer months. According to WCFB statistics, on average, enough food is distributed each week by the Worcester County Food Bank and its network of partner agency pantries to provide over 100,000 meals to neighbors across Worcester County. The need becomes greater during the summer months when children cannot rely upon subsidized school breakfast and lunch.
"The Worcester Bravehearts are delighted to work with Saint Vincent Hospital for the 5th consecutive year on this worthwhile endeavor," said General Manager Dave Peterson. "Nothing could make me happier on May 30th than seeing our staff and fans help pack the truck for the Worcester County Food Bank."
For their part, the Bravehearts will also raffle off prizes for those who donate. One prize includes a meet & greet with former Red Sox player Keith Foulke, who is best-known for tossing the final pitch of the 2004 World Series and will also be on-hand for Bravehearts opening night. The Bravehearts have also booked skydivers to land in the outfield before the game and encourage fans to arrive early to see the show before the first pitch at 6:35 PM.
"Each year, we look forward to the Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive and we are so grateful to our community partners- The Worcester County Food Bank and The Worcester Bravehearts" said JoAnn Piedrafite, Chief Nursing Officer at Saint Vincent Hospital. "This project is so important because local families here in the Worcester area need assistance with meals during the Summer months and it's very touching to see so many people pitch in with Saint Vincent Hospital by donating cereal."
This is the 8th year that Saint Vincent Hospital has supported the Worcester County Food Bank with the Tenet Healthcare Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive. The drive will run this year from May 30 to June 14, and donors can also make donations online at http://weblink.donorperfect.com/cereal. The Food Bank counts on monetary donations for other perishable foods, such as milk, eggs and fruit, to be able to offer items to accompany the cereal.
"This drive demonstrates the hospital and its employees' commitment to creating a hunger-free and healthy community," said Jean McMurray, Executive Director of the Worcester County Food Bank. We're so grateful for Saint Vincent's ongoing partnership and support of our mission."
According to the Worcester County Food Bank, over 80,000 people in Worcester County received food assistance from WCFB and its network of Partner Agencies - food pantries and community meal programs - in Fiscal Year 2018 alone. Consistently, about one-third of people receiving food assistance from WCFB and its network of Partner Agencies are children while 13 percent are seniors.
