Brampton A's Sign 3 NBL Vets
October 11, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Orangeville A's News Release
ORANGEVILLE, Ontario. - The Brampton A's have bolstered their line up with the signing of 3 NBL Canada veterans in Cedric Moodie, Stefan Bonneau, and Kevin Francis.
Cedric Moodie is entering his 13th year of professional basketball and spent the last two playing in the NBL. A pure shooter, he consistently averaged 14 points in 21 minutes for both the Quebec Kebs and the Halifax Rainmen.
A's Head Coach and General Manager, David Magley has known Moodie for many years and considers him to be a scorer that will bring maturity, "The most important thing with him is he is a 'professional' and with so many rookies and new NBL players, we felt it was very important to include a guy like him on our squad."
Moodie is excited and ready to show what he can do, "I like the level of play of this league and have not been fully healthy the past couple of years. I am hoping that I can really show everyone what I am capable of in Brampton and help them compete for a Title."
As for Stefan Bonneau, the NBL Canada 2013 Dunk Champion at 5'10" is a literal human highlight film. He enjoyed a solid season for the Windsor Express last season averaging 7.5 points and 1.7 assists per game.
Coach Magley loves his potential, "In Stef we have a young man with great athleticism and potential to be a very good point guard." Bonneau is looking forward to contributing and improving his game, "I just want to keep getting better and love the way that they approach training and personal development in Brampton."
Rounding out the signees is Brampton's own Kevin Francis of Division I Cleveland State. A 6'8" slender power forward, Francis is a high-energy guy that is most recognizable by his sizable beard and passion for running up and down the court. His first two seasons in the league were with Oshawa and St. John, where he was a stable contributor. Coach Magley is glad they snagged the free agents, "Kevin and Stef were both protected players by their respective teams. When they cleared and became free agents we acted on both quickly. In Kevin we have a passionate competitor that plays at a very high intensity and will add much depth at multiple positions."
The A's first pre-season game is October the 25th at 7:00 PM at the Powerade Centre against the Ottawa SkyHawks, the A's will take the court again on Sunday October 27th @ 2:00 PM at Budweiser Gardens against the NBL's two time defending champions, the London Lightning.
The Brampton A's will begin their inaugural season on November 1st, they will play all their home games at the Powerade Centre. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster or at www.bramptonas.ca.
