Storm Signs 2nd Round Draft Pick

The Island Storm is pleased to announce they have their 2nd round NBL Canada Draft pick. Ryan Martin has signed with the club and will be reporting to training camp next week.
Martin, a 5'9", 165 pound sharp shooter from Wayne, Maine, was selected in the second round (19th overall). A combo guard who was named the State of Maine's High School Gatorade Player of the Year in 2008, he graduated from Keene State College this past spring.
While at Keene, Martin went on to score 1,000 points in just three seasons for the Owls, as well as being named 1st team All-Little East Conference in his Senior season, while leading Keene to the LEC Conference Finals. Known for his perimeter shooting, Martin led the NCAA (Divisions 1, 2, & 3) in free throw percentage in 2011-2012 when he shot an incredible 91% from the line. He averaged 15.1 points per game his senior year, while shooting 48.3% from the three point line.
"Ryan was hands down the best shooter at the combine this year," stated Storm Head Coach Joe Salerno. "I had received a call from his college coach (Rob Colbert at Keene) late this past spring regarding Ryan, telling me to put him on my radar. It really took seeing him compete at the combine for us to pull the trigger on him in the 2nd round. He is a phenomenal shooter and tremendous competitor. A guy his size playing this game has had to fight for everything he has gotten to get to this level. I think an awful lot of those types of players - those are the types of player who win championships. We look forward to seeing how Ryan will be able to adjust to the pro-style game as well as the size and physicality of the NBL. From what I have gotten to know of Ryan over the past few months, he is looking forward to proving he can play at this level."
The Storm kicks off training camp on October 16. The team expects to round out their training camp roster with the announcement of their final signing on Tuesday.
The Storm will be hosting two intra-squad games, October 19th at Westisle Composite High School, and October 23 at Morell Regional High. Both intra-squad games are schedule to tip-off at 7:00pm.
