Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
FORT WAYNE, Indiana (December 21) - The Brahmas let a third-period lead slip away but came out on top, cashing in on three of four attempts in the shootout to beat the Komets 5-4 Wednesday night.
Fort Wayne goaltender Nick Boucher came into Wednesday's matchup with the Brahmas as the CHL's leader in goals against average, but the Brahmas found ways to get the puck past him.
The Komets got on the board first as Bryant Molle scored at the 3:42 mark of the second period, but the Brahmas came right back with three goals of their own in the second period. Chad Woollard scored a powerplay goal at the 7:26 mark - his twelfth of the season - to tie the score at one apiece. Jordan Kary and Jim Burichin found the back of the net as well, giving Texas a 3-1 lead heading into the third period.
After Leo Thomas scored to cut the deficit in half, Burichin scored his second goal of the game - and his third of the season - to put the Brahmas back up by two scores. In the final four minutes though, the Komets were able to beat Texas netminder Steve Silverthorn twice - once on a shorthanded goal from Bobby Chaumont and again on a powerplay score from Jamie Milam - to send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless overtime, the Brahmas and Komets went into a shootout - in which the Brahmas were 2-1 coming into Wednesday's game. Silverthorn denied three of the four shots attempted, and Jordan Kary, Phil Fox and T.J. Fox each beat Boucher to give the Brahmas their third shootout win of the season.
Silverthorn faced 48 shots, stopping 44 of them en route to his sixth victory of the season.
Texas continues its road trip in the Midwest as the team faces off against the Dayton Gems on Thursday night at 6:00pm CST. The Brahmas return to North Richland Hills to take on the Laredo Bucks on Wednesday, December 28 at 7:00pm at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
