Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, TX - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs lost their third consecutive road game Saturday night at the NyTex Sports Centre, falling 4-2 to the Texas Brahmas. The ‘Bugs mounted a furious effort to tie the game late, but Texas held on before adding an empty net goal to seal the victory.

Tyrel Lucas and Travis Clayton scored the goals for Bossier-Shreveport, who dropped to 9-10-0 this year after the loss. Both teams scored twice on the powerplay in the game, with the Mudbugs converted 2 of 7 chances and the Brahmas cashing in 2 of 8.

Texas led by 1-0 after the first period thanks to a powerplay goal from Justin Kinnunen, who received a pass in the high slot and fired a shot just inside the post on John DeCaro's stick side to open the scoring. The Brahmas outshot the Mudbugs 8-7 in the opening period.

Tyler Skworchinski added to the Texas lead early in the middle stanza, skating into the low slot and beating John DeCaro with a wrist shot that make it 2-0 Brahmas at 2:18. After three unsuccessful powerplays in the second, the Mudbugs finally broke through on the man-advantage late in the period. Controlling the puck low in the Texas zone, Brett Smith fed a pass to Tyrel Lucas, who quickly wristed it over Joe Palmer's glove to get Bossier-Shreveport on the board with less than four minutes remaining in the period. The Brahmas led 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Texas made it 3-1 early in the third when Luke Sellars scored during a 5-on-3 powerplay at 3:21 to extend the lead. The ‘Bugs kept battling and got back within one when Travis Clayton beat Palmer on a beautiful shot to the top corner with just under four minutes remaining. They generated late chances with the goaltender pulled, but Grant Jacobsen's empty net goal capped off the 4-2 win.

John DeCaro made 20 saves in defeat, while Joe Palmer stopped 24 shots. The Mudbugs outshot the Brahmas 26-24 in the contest.

Bossier-Shreveport will now stay on the road in Texas, traveling next to Amarillo to face the Gorillas for the second time in four days. The Mudbugs lost to Amarillo 5-4 on Friday night at CenturyTel Center in the first meeting between the teams since 2006. Opening faceoff is set for 7:05 pm on Monday night with pregame coverage starting at 6:45 on News Radio 710 AM KEEL. The game can also be seen live online on CHL TV.
