Louisiana IceGators News Release

Fayetteville, N.C. --The Louisiana IceGators wanted to make a statement in their season-opener tonight.

That message was delivered loud and clear. The IceGators will be a force to be reckoned with during the 2014-15 season.

Jeremy Boyer scored twice to lead the IceGators to a 3-0 victory over the Fayetteville FireAntz. The IceGators outshot Fayetteville 32-23 during the game, holding the FireAntz to less than 10 shots in each period.

"This was a great road win to start the season," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli, who picked up his first career win in the professional ranks. "I was beyond content with our system play and overall work ethic."

Boyer gave the IceGators a 1-0 lead at the 16:09 mark of the first period when he scored off assists from Clark Byczynski and Matt Robertson. He tacked on his second goal on a power play at the 7:15 mark of the third period off assists from Adam Stuart and Benjamin Rubin.

Chris Wilson added an insurance goal with 6:25 left in the game off a feed from Reid Lesswing.

Omicioli also had high praise for his goalie, Marco DeFilippo, who stopped all 23 of Fayetteville's shots.

"Marco was excellent all night, and our team was solid in front of him," Omicioli said.

Omicioli says he hopes his team can continue the momentum into Saturday night's rematch against Fayetteville, which begins at 7:35 p.m. EDT in the Crown Coliseum.

"I'm pleased to get two points tonight," Omicioli said, "and we're looking to take two more [Saturday] to complete the weekend sweep."
