
Boston Celtics Recall Flame Center Dwayne Jones

FORT MYERS, Fla., February 8 - The Boston Celtics have recalled center Dwayne Jones from the Florida Flame of the NBA Development League, it was announced today by Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations, Danny Ainge.
Jones appeared in 26 D-League games for the Flame, making 25 starts. The 6-11, rookie center from St. Joseph's (PA) University averaged 8.9 points per game with the Flame and currently leads the NBA Development League in total blocks (52), total rebounds (304), total offensive rebounds (118), rebounding average (11.7), and offensive rebounding average (4.5). Jones also ranks second in the D-League in blocked shots average (2.0) and is tied for third in double-doubles with nine overall.
Traded by the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Celtics on January 26, 2006, Jones has been recalled for the second time this season. Jones was recalled by Minnesota on December 28, 2005 and did not see action with the Timberwolves before his re-assignment to Florida on January 3, 2006. Jones was originally assigned to the Flame on November 4, 2005 after earning a roster spot in the Timberwolves 2005 training camp as a non-drafted free agent.
Jones set a Florida Flame team record with 21 rebounds in Florida's 95-93 overtime win at Austin on December 11, 2005. The mark surpassed the previous team record of 16 rebounds set by Kirk Haston against Roanoke on November 21, 2004. In that contest, Jones also set the Flame team record for offensive rebounds in a game with 12.
Jones averaged 1.0 points, (.500 FG%), 1.7 rebounds and 5.0 minutes per game in three preseason contests with Minnesota after being signed as a free agent on August 26, 2005. Playing for the Timberwolves' 2005 Minnesota Summer League entry, he averaged 7.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in five contests (all starts). The 2004-05 Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year, Jones was an early entry candidate for the 2005 NBA Draft, but was not selected. The Morgantown, West Virginia native spent three seasons at Saint Joseph's University (2002-03 - 2004-05) where he averaged 7.1 points (.522 FG%), 8.5 rebounds, and 2.37 blocks per game in 98 career contests (started 69).
The Flame return to action tomorrow night, Thursday, February 9, as they continue their five-game homestand against the Albuquerque Thunderbirds. Tip-off at Germain Arena is 7:05 p.m. ET. Florida rounds out its homestand on Friday, February 10 versus Albuquerque with tip-off set for 7:05 p.m. ET at Germain Arena. The night will be highlighted by a special appearance from the Miami Heat Xtreme Team, who will perform their high-flying, acrobatic dunking show during the game and halftime. Florida is currently on a three-game winning streak and has won a franchise-record seven games in a row at home. The Flame sits in first place in the D-League standings with a 19-10 record, holding a one-and-a-half game lead over second place Fort Worth (17-11).
