Boston Breakers Welcome Houston Dash to Town Sunday for 2015 Home Opener

HANOVER, Mass (April 25, 2015) - The Boston Breakers return to action for the first time in two weeks, and they will do so at their new home, Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium on the campus of Harvard University.

The Breakers host the Houston Dash Sunday at 5 p.m., looking to earn their first win of the season after falling, 4-1, to Portland Thorns FC on April 11 at Providence Park. The Breakers and Dash last met on Aug. 17, 2014 at Harvard Stadium, and the Breakers came away with a 1-0 victory courtesy of a goal by Kristie Mewis. But with this new year brings new changes. There are nearly two dozen new faces on both teams combined.

Houston comes to Boston with a 1-0-1 record, picking up a 2-0 win over the Washington Spirit at home to open season, followed by a 1-1 draw at Sky Blue FC.

"They started off really well, and they looked good," Boston Breakers head coach Tom Durkin said. "They have a lot of roster improvements, so we're going to see two really different teams than we saw in the last game of the season. They're really explosive up front. They've got Jess McDonald, (Kealia) Ohai is really on her game right now, and they have a potent midfield."

That midfield includes U.S. Women's National Team players Carli Lloyd and Morgan Brian, the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NWSL Draft.

"To me, Carli Lloyd is the MVP of the league. She really makes a big impact in every game she plays," Durkin said. "They're going to keep us busy. But I think it's going to be an exciting game. We're really happy to be playing at this venue."

"To me, this is the start of the season," Durkin added. "I don't think we were ready for Portland, but I think we're in a good state of readiness for this game."

In their 2015 NWSL debut, the Breakers fell behind, 2-0, at Portland before rookie, former Boston College star, and Winchester, Mass. native Stephanie McCaffrey pulled the team back into the match with a stunning strike from just inside the 18. But Portland added two late goals to secure the victory.

Sunday marks the final match for Breakers keeper Alyssa Naeher before she heads off to train with the U.S. Women's National Team ahead of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada.

The 2014 NWSL Goalkeeper of the Year, Naeher is the Breakers franchise leader in games played by a goalkeeper (68), games started (67), saves (382), wins (24), shutouts (12), and minutes played (6,351) was recently named to Jill Ellis' 23-player World Cup roster.

Following Sunday's game, the Breakers head out on a two-game road trip, first stopping in Western New York on May 2 to take on the Flash before heading to Toyota Park to play the Chicago Red Stars on May 9. The Breakers return home on Saturday, May 16 at 4 p.m. ET to host Portland Thorns FC.
