Boston Breakers News Release
HANOVER, Mass. (Nov. 18, 2015) - The Boston Breakers announced today the signing of defender Brooke Elby. Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 22-year-old Arcadia, Calif. native played four seasons at the University of North Carolina, helping the Tar Heels win the NCAA National Championship in 2012. Elby is currently playing for the Melbourne Victory in Australia's W-League.
"I am very happy to have signed Brooke. She is a fantastic athlete and will fit into our philosophy very nicely," Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. "She is an excellent one-v-one defender, really tough to beat and a player who is comfortable on the ball and going forward. Naturally a right-footed player, she is just as strong on her left, which gives us more opportunities in how she is played."
At UNC, Elby appeared in 73 matches over the course of four seasons, making 19 starts. She scored three goals and registered seven assists in 2,345 minutes of action. In the 2012 NCAA quarterfinals, she preserved a 2-1 double overtime win against BYU with a goal-line clearance in the final seconds. The Tar Heels went on to win the national championship.
Season tickets for 2016 are currently on sale and can be purchased by calling 617-945-1704 or by visiting www.breakerstickets.com.
