Boston Breakers Sign Australian Forward Kyah Simon

HANOVER, Mass. (June 30, 2015) - The Boston Breakers announced today the signing of Australian forward Kyah Simon, pending receipt of her P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 24-year-old from Sydney led the Australian Women's National Team to its second straight appearance in the quarterfinals at the FIFA World Cup Canada 2015. Throughout the 2015 Women's World Cup, Simon scored three goals, including two in a 2-0 win over Nigeria in the group stage. Simon scored the game-winner in a 1-0 victory over Brazil on June 21 to open the knockout round.

This will be Simon's second stint with the Breakers. She played in Boston during the 2012 Women's Premier Soccer League Elite season and throughout the 2013 National Women's Soccer League campaign. In those two years with the Breakers, Simon appeared in 30 games (23 starts). She scored 15 goals and tallied five assists in 2,120 minutes.

"I am delighted to be bringing Kyah back to Boston. She had a fantastic stint with us in 2012 and 2013, and if not for her injury, she would have continued as a Breaker," Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. "She has shown her sharpness and eye for goal during the World Cup, something we will benefit from in Boston upon her return from international duty. I am happy to have her back scoring goals in a Breakers jersey."

Simon's international career with the senior team began in August 2007, at the age of 16, against Hong Kong. She scored her first international goal in a win over Brazil at the 2008 Peace Cup.

Simon helped lead Australia into the knockout stage of the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup in Germany and scored two goals in a 2-1 win over Norway, which sent Australia to the quarterfinals. She was the first ever Indigenous Australian (male or female) to score a goal in a FIFA World Cup tournament.

In 2013 as a captain with Sydney FC, Simon won her second Grand Final. It was her third Grand Final appearance in five seasons of the W-League. Sydney beat the Melbourne Victory, 3-1, in the 2013 Grand Final. Simon scored one goal and had one assist in the win, earning Player of the Match honors.
