Boston Breakers News Release
WATERTOWN, Mass. - The Boston Breakers open the 2016 National Women's Soccer League preseason on March 14, and this year's preseason will see the team return to Florida for an eight-day training camp.
After a successful 2015 preseason in Florida, which included a pair of shutouts against the Jamaican Women's National Team, the Breakers will head back to Jacksonville in 2016.
The Breakers once again will have the opportunity to interact with Florida Elite Soccer Academy (FESA) players and coaches. During the 2015 Florida training camp, more than 1,500 youth players from Florida Elite Soccer Academy attended an evening training session to watch the pro players, take photos, and get autographs after the practice session while then head coach Tom Durkin spoke to Florida Elite Soccer coaching staff on different coach education components.
"We have a really good relationship with Florida Elite Soccer Academy," Boston Breakers general manager Lee Billiard said. "They took really good care of us last year, provided an excellent professional environment for our players to train, and made us all feel very welcome. The interaction between our organization, players, and staff with their youth players, staff, and coaches was great for everyone. Florida Elite Soccer Academy have a great youth setup and a very professional feel about their organization and how they develop youth players, which fits into how we do things with our development pyramid."
The Breakers will spend eight days in Florida, departing Boston on March 23 and returning March 31. In addition to training, the team will play a pair of matches in Florida, one each against Florida State University (March 25) and the Florida Elite Soccer Academy U16/U17 boys' team (March 30).
"This preseason camp is going to be a great opportunity for everyone to bond and be on the same page," Boston Breakers head coach Matt Beard said. "It will also give me plenty of time on the training pitch and in the classroom to get our philosophy across to the players as well as have two competitive fixtures."
Before departing for Florida, the Breakers will play Northeastern University on March 20. Upon returning from Florida, the Breakers will wrap up preseason with a match against a boys' U16/17 team on April 3 and finally against Boston College on April 8. Dates and times still subject to change.
