Boston Blazers News Release

Boston, MA (December 6, 2010) The Boston Blazers announced today that goaltender Anthony Cosmo has finalized a two-year contract with the team. Cosmo, a three-time NLL All-Star and the 2007 NLL Goaltender of the Year, is the last integral piece of the Blazers starting line-up.

Cosmo began his NLL career in 2001 with the Toronto Rock with whom he played until he was sent to the San Jose Stealth in a blockbuster six-player trade following the 2004 season. With the Stealth, Cosmo earned consecutive All-Star team naming in 2005 and 2006 as well as his first Goaltender of the Year award for leading the league in save percentage (.792) and GAA (10.22).

Following the dispersal of the Chicago Shamrox in 2008, the Blazers selected Cosmo with their first overall pick. Since joining the squad, Cosmo has dominated the Blazers defense completing the 2010 season with a .799 save percentage (3rd overall), 559 saves (3rd overall), and 9.31 GAA (2nd overall). Through 154 games played, Cosmo has a career .784 save percentage, 10.66 GAA, and 3,888 saves.

"With the signings of Dan Dawson, Josh Sanderson, Casey Powell, and now Cosmo we have a core of veterans who know what it takes to win in the NLL," said Doug Reffue, Blazers President and General Manager. "Having this nucleus of players all signed for two years places us in a great position. Now it's up to them to learn how to play as a unit and teach our younger players what it takes to compete for a Champions Cup."

A native of Mississauga, Ontario and a ten-year league veteran, Cosmo also plays with the Brampton Excelsiors with whom he was the 2008 MVP and won the Mann Cup in 2008 and 2009.

The Blazers kick off their season on the road against the Philadelphia Wings at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, January 8 at 7:30pm.
