Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kans. - Alex Boshers tossed his second complete game in his last three starts and the Wichita Wingnuts jumped out to a big early lead to cruise past the Sioux Falls Canaries 10-2 Saturday night at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The Wingnuts (35-19) got Boshers (5-3) the lead in the first, when T.J. Mittelstaedt hit a line drive two-run homer off of Ray Hanson (0-1) to break the ice.
Wichita then doubled their lead in the next inning on an error and an RBI bounce out by Zack Cox.
The lead stretched to 7-0 in the third, as RBI singles by Richard Prigatano and Brennen Salgado, and another error by Sioux Falls (17-36) plated three more for the Wingnuts.
In the fifth, Wichita capped off their scoring, as Leo Vargas doubled in a pair and a third Canaries error allowed him to score.
The 10 runs of support were more than enough for Boshers, who earned his second career complete game, and the third for Wichita this season. The righty allowed a pair of runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Michael Pair that saw a second unearned run score after a Wingnut error.
Outside of the sixth, Boshers allowed more than one runner in an inning once, and had two double plays turned behind him. He also struck out six Canaries on the night, a new career-high.
The Wingnuts and Canaries continue their four-game set Sunday afternoon at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Veteran right-hander Jon Link (6-3, 3.91) will get the starting nod for Wichita, while Sioux Falls will counter with southpaw Kris Regas (3-3, 6.12). First pitch is set for 1:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
