East Kentucky Miners News Release
ALBANY, NY - The Continental Basketball Association announced Friday that East Kentucky Miners forward James "Boo" Jackson had been named the 2007-08 CBA Newcomer of the Year, as voted on by the 10 CBA head coaches. "The entire Miners organization is very proud of what Boo was able to accomplish this season," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "He was really an unknown player with little professional experience heading into the season. But he was able to come in and have a great season, setting the tone and laying the foundation in our first season as a professional basketball franchise."
Jackson, a 2005 Eastern Michigan alum, distinguished himself as one of the standouts for the expansion East Kentucky team in its inaugural season. He finished the season as the CBA's sixth-leading scorer (21.4 ppg.) and the second-leading rebounder (10.4 rpg.). Jackson led the CBA in offensive rebounds (3.9 rpg.) and shot 53.2-percent from the field. He was a two-time American Conference player of the week.
A member of the 2008 American Conference CBA All-Star Team, Jackson had a 40-point outburst against Great Falls on February 13. The offensive effort versus Great Falls ranked as his highest scoring output of the season. Three times this season, Jackson pulled down 20 rebounds in a game - second-best in the tradition-rich CBA. Jackson was an integral part of the East Kentucky team's success this season, helping to lead the Miners to a 26-22 regular-season record and a berth in the CBA Playoffs.
"Earning the CBA Newcomer of the Year award will allow Boo an opportunity to continue to pursue his professional basketball goals," Keathley added. The CBA Newcomer of the Year award is given to an exemplary first-year CBA player with prior professional experience.
