Bonser To Continue Rehab With Miracle
September 5, 2009 - Florida State League (FSL1)
Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, FL (September 5, 2009)- The Minnesota Twins announced today that pitcher Boof Bonser will make a major league rehab appearance tonight for the Fort Myers Miracle. The Miracle are in Jupiter to take on the Hammerheads at 6:05 p.m.
Bonser, who is currently on the Twins 60-day disabled list after undergoing right shoulder surgery in April, will throw a limited number of pitches. The right-hander made 47 appearances last season for the Twins, with a 3-7 record and a 5.93 ERA.
The Twins announced two additional moves to the Miracle roster.
Fort Myers native Zach See has been promoted from the GCL Twins and will pitch for the Miracle on Sunday in the regular season finale. The Estero High graduate compiled a 2-0 record with a 0.69 ERA in 13 appearances, all in relief, for the rookie league club. The right-hander struck out 34 in 26 innings. This is his first year of professional baseball.
The Miracle will enter the playoffs without the services of relief pitcher Matt Williams. Williams has been moved to the temporary inactive list while he participates in the 2009 International Baseball Federation (IBAF) Baseball World Cup.
The Camden, Australia product garnered a 3-0 record with a 2.48 ERA out of the bullpen for the Miracle.
The World Cup will be held across five different European cities next weekend, September 9-12. The rosters contain a World Cup record of more than 100 current professional players not currently on 25-man Major League Baseball (MLB) rosters.
The Twins will be represented by 10 players, including six from Australia. All players on the USA, Canada and Puerto Rico rosters are either currently or have previously been under professional contract with an MLB club, while Australia has 17 current or former MLB-affiliated professional players on its roster.
The 2009 Baseball World Cup first round will be held in Regensburg, Germany; Zagreb; Prague; Barcelona; and Sundbyberg, Sweden from Sept 9-12. The second round will be played across Italy and the Netherlands from Sept. 13-20, while the final round will be held exclusively in Italy, from Sept. 22-27. In total, 22 nations will compete for the coveted world championship.
The Miracle, 80-56 overall, will face 1-75 rival Charlotte in the best-of-three South Division Finals beginning on Tuesday in Charlotte. The Miracle will host game two and if necessary game three.
