Wilmington Sharks News Release

Wilmington, N.C. - Tyler Bolton had another great outing on the bump for the Wilmington Sharks (3-3, 17-16) in a 5-1 win over the Morehead City Marlins (4-3, 16-19) on Wednesday night.

The game was highlighted by great pitching from both teams, Bolton threw eight innings as he gave up one run on three hits and struck out four to improve his record to 4-0 on the year. Ben Fuchs also threw well for the Marlins as he tossed six innings and gave up four runs and three hits and now moves to 3-1 on the year.

The Sharks got rolling in the bottom of the first inning as Andrew Amaro led off with a single and moved to third on a double from Alex Freedman. Amaro scored on a ground out from Cody Dolan and Freedman scored on a wild pitch to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead.

Both pitchers were throwing great through the middle innings as neither team could get an offense going.

Dolan led off the seventh for the Sharks with a single and Zach Stephens and Mike Dunster drew back to back walks to load the bases. TJ Losby hit a ball to Ryan Cranmer who stepped on third to record an out, but his throw sailed high at first to allow a Dunster to score from first and give the Sharks a 4-0 lead. Alex Perez picked up an RBI single to extend the lead 5-0.

Dalton Britt hit an RBI single in the top of the eighth to cut the Sharks lead to 5-1. Kyle Shields came in on relief and threw a quick ninth innings to seal up the win.

The Sharks will play host to the Edenton Steamers on Thursday night at home with a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
