Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release
MUSKEGON, MI.--- As the sounds of the beginning of training camp become more of a reality, the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League continue to demonstrate a lot of notion to their Muskegon motion in formulating the roster that will hit the ice at Walker Arena come October 5th.
One more significant step forward has been realized for the Lumberjacks' defensive corps with the club's latest player signing. On this date, Lumberjacks General Manager / Governor Tim Taylor, in collaboration with Head Coach Rich Kromm, has announced that top drawer defenseman DAN BOESER has assented to terms and penned a new one-year pact with the club. Adhering to club policy, terms of the contract deal were not disclosed.
BOESER, 29, is signed, sealed and set for his sixth pro season overall and his second wearing the Lumberjacks coat of arms. The 6-1, 210lb American-bred from Savage, Minnesota will return to the Muskegon club in a much healthier, physically and mentally stronger condition than one year ago when he actually made his Lumberjacks debut.
In 2008-09, despite hampered due to major off-season knee surgery, the left-hand shooting rearguard, nevertheless, acquitted himself admirably and nobly. Marked absent for the initial 24-games of last campaign, he still managed to collect 28-points in 52-games to rank 16th overall in the IHL league-wide point-productivity among defensemen with 8-goals, 20-assists. Boeser's offensive output included 3-PPG, 8-PP/Assists and 2-GWG. He ranked fourth overall in team scoring among the blue line brigade.
Though somewhat slowed from those knee maladies for most of the regular phase, the former standout at perennial national powerhouse U. of Wisconsin seemed to truly find his stride in the playoffs as he helped spur his squad to a berth in the Turner Cup Championship Finals. Finishing tied for sixth in IHL playoffs' scoring for the defense, Boeser generated 3-points on 1-goal, 2-assists with his single strike stoked on the power play.
GM Taylor expressed enthusiasm and satisfaction with the return of the man affectionately known as the "Boss." "Last season, Dan was coming off a major knee injury which required some major surgery. He worked quite hard in an effort to play over it during the regular season, though, in essence, he was still in the recovery period. He seemed to save his best for last as he really stepped-up for us in the playoffs. That was a real positive sign for him and for us and we look forward to seeing how good Dan Boeser can really be as we look to him to emerge as one of our real lynchpins at the critical blue line position this season."
Previous to his advent on the Muskegon pro hockey landscape, Boeser starred for two seasons with Muskegon's former UHL rivals, the Rockford IceHogs. In fact, he was a premiere member of the Rockford club which captured the Colonial Cup crown in 2007, recording 12-points in 17-playoff games on 2-goal, 10-assists. He finished #2 in league playoff scoring among defensemen, slightly behind his long-time teammate, defensive partner and current Lumber-jacks mate, Matt Gens.
The Lumberjacks returning defenseman is a former four-year star at the U. of Wisconsin where in 153-career games, he engineered 79-points on 17-goals, 62-assists with 79-PIM.
While at Wisconsin with the Badgers, Boeser was named a finalist for the College Humanitarian Award presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins lymphoma after his sophomore season. He was able to defeat the disease and worked in the community to support ailing children.
Boeser's pro career numbers read: 178-games; 18-goals, 65-assists, 83-points with 40-PIM.
Today's signing of defenseman DAN BOESER brings to 20 the number of players currently under Muskegon contract for the 50th Anniversary Season.
