Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings didn't skip a beat in their return to the ice, as they posted nine goals en route to a 9-2 victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires in their pre-season opener on Tuesday at the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West.
The Jr. K-Wings filled the score sheet early and often during the first period, as Luc Boby lit the lamp for the first time on the pre-season 8:42 into the first.
Boby followed that up just six seconds later with his second of the game.
Two minutes and fourteen seconds later, Kalamazoo found the back of the net yet again. This time it was Nolan Culver who scored his first for the Jr. K-Wings, giving Kalamazoo an early 3-0 lead.
Thiry-six seconds later, Robbie Payne (1st) made it 4-0 Kalamazoo with a wrist shot that beat Sarnia goaltender, Sean Parker. The goal was the fourth for Kalamazoo in a matter of two minutes and fifty-six seconds.
The Legionnaires got one of their own before the end of the first, as Derek D'Andrea (1st) was the beneficiary of a big rebound at the 17:29 mark of the first.
The second period wasn't much different than the first, as Kalamazoo tallied more early goals. 3:32 into the period, Davis DeKorte scored his first of the pre-season on a high-slot deflection to make it 5-1.
One minute and twenty seconds later, Kalamazoo padded their lead a bit more. Josh Dangel scored his first of the pre-season and increased the Jr. K-Wings lead to five goals.
Just thirteen seconds later, Boby capped off the hat trick with a nifty one handed backhand goal that pushed the score to 7-1.
Identically to the first frame, Sarnia would tally a goal of their own before heading into the locker room. D'Andrea notched his second of the game at the 18:29 mark of the second to draw his team back to within five.
Adding to Kalamazoo's already insurmountable lead, Patrick Spellacy (1st) scored at 7:35 of the third to make the score 8-2.
Closing out the scoring for the Jr. K-Wings, Dangle tallied his second of the night late in the third period.
The Jr. K-Wings will return to the Borgess Health Rink at Wings West for another pre-season contest against the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies club team on Saturday, September 8th. The puck is set to drop from Kalamazoo at 2 p.m.
