Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - With a penchant for big runs from the defensive half and inspiring his teammates to strive for victory every second of the match, defender Bo Jelovac returns to the Syracuse Silver Knights as the club's captain for the 2016-17 season in the Major Arena Soccer League.

"Bo is an outstanding talent, and we are glad to have him here in Syracuse. His combination of size and speed coming out of the back is really rare in this league," Silver Knights Coach Bryan O'Quinn said. "When he is on the field, he puts a lot of pressure on the other team's defense to keep him in check."

At 6 feet 3 inches tall, Jelovac towers over many of his MASL competitors. His physical presence and speed are real assets for the Silver Knights, and his skill set makes him highly valuable on both ends of the field.

"Not only is Bo an amazing athlete and a rare talent, but his work rate and passion for the game is also second to none. As our captain, he helps bring energy to the team on a daily basis. He leads by example with the work and effort that he puts into the game," O'Quinn added.

Beyond what he has brought to the Dave and Busters Field at the War Memorial Arena at Oncenter, Jelovac has helped some of the best young soccer players in Central New York develop their skills. He coaches with the Syracuse Player Development Academy in addition to running Syracuse Silver Knights soccer camps, including the upcoming camps on Nov. 11 at the team's training facility.

"Bo does a terrific job in teaching the youth in Syracuse, and his demeanor is much different than when he is on the field," Silver Knights General Manager observed. "When Bo teaches a camp or clinic, you know your child is going to learn and work hard, but, in the end, they will have fun."

When playing for the Silver Knights, Jelovac brings an infectious determination to the field. That attitude led to his becoming captain of the squad.

"Bo brings an intensity to the team that every team needs to have in order to win a championship," Tanner said.

Jelovac leads the Silver Knights in their quest for a championship as the club opens its season the Harrisburg Heat on Friday, Nov. 18 in the War Memorial at Oncenter. For information on tickets, contact 315-303-7261 or log onto www.syracusesilverknights.com.

MASL WEEKLY RECAP:

In the only action in the MASL Eastern Division this past week, the Baltimore Blast defeated the Harrisburg Heat 11 to 6. Forward Vincius Dantas led the Blast with four goals and an assist. Harrisburg had balanced scoring, six players scored for the heat, but not enough to compete with Baltimore's firepower. Harrisburg keeper Nick Noble made 23 saves in the loss.

Out West, the San Diego Sockers defeated Dallas, for their second win of the season. The Sockers have one of the top keepers in the MASL, with goalie Chris Toth stopping 24 shots and conceding just four goals, and have taken an early lead in the MASL this season with two wins in their first two matches.

Silver Knights Fans may recognize a familiar face when the squad opens its season vs. Harrisburg on Nov. 18. Defender Marcos Chantal, who spent several seasons with the Silver Knights, is now a member of the Heat. Chantal, a physical presence on the pitch, didn't get on the stat sheet for scoring, but he did a for a blue card foul.
