Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
The Springfield Jr. Blues swept the Witchita Falls Wildcats to lock in a playoff spot in the Central Division. The Blues won 4-1 on Friday night and 3-2 on Saturday. They will either play S. Minnesota or N.Iowa in the first round, which will begin April 4th.
On Friday, the Blues started slow after a long bus ride, but came out in the second period ready to play. Matt Larke, with assists from Kyle Greco and Darren Rowe, scored a powerplay goal at 4:14 to start off the scoring. The Wildcats tied it at 1 before going into the second intermission. It was all Blues from that point on. Jarod Rickard scored two straight goals. The first was assisted by Matt Globke and the second by Steve Mohler. Matt Larke finished the night off with a short-handed goal near the end of the game.
On Saturday, Larke scored another "shorty" assisted by Cory Patterson in the first period. The Wildcats tied it up in the second. Matt Globke started the scoring in the 3rd, assisted by Darren Rowe and Jarod Rickard. Cory Patterson lit the lamp next with help from teammates Matt Larke and Alex Paine.
Phil Cook guarded the nets both nights and earned first star awards twice. Matt Larke had another great weekend scoring two short-handed goals and a power-play goal. He also had an assist for a four point weekend.
The Blues travel to league-leading St. Louis Tuesday night to try and figure out a way to beat the Bandits, who have only lost nine regulation games all season-two of which came at the hands of the Blues.
Congratulations to the Jr. Blues players, coaches and staff for a job well done !!!
