Blues Face off against Seattle Sounders FC 2
June 3, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
IRVINE, Calif. Orange County Blues FC take on Seattle Sounders FC 2 this Saturday at Anteater Stadium after snatching a dramatic point on the road last Friday night against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC.
Orange County Blues return to Anteater Stadium this Saturday following their trip to Colorado where they claimed a crucial point in the dying moments of the match. With the Blues down to ten men following the dismissal of Captain Ivan Mirkovic mid-way through the second half and trailing one goal to nil the Blues were certainly up against it. However in the last minute of stoppage time the Blues were awarded a penalty and left back Roy Meeus stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way and level the match, with the last kick of the game.
This will be the first match of the season between the Blues and the Sounders FC 2 with both sides currently sitting outside the playoffs. Last season there was little to separate the sides with the record reading 1-1-1.
It has been a slow start to the season for the Sounders FC 2 as they currently sit bottom of the USL standings. Having finished in 6th spot and making the playoffs in the 2015 USL season they will be certainly looking to climb the table soon. The Sounders FC 2 have only won one match this year and that came back in April when they defeated the Colorado Springs Switchbacks 1-0. Goals have been hard to come by with the team only managing to score six goals this season.
The Blues will be looking to record their fourth win of the season which should see them rise back into the playoff positions. A win would give the Blues momentum as they head into an important run of fixtures which sees them play teams around them in the league standings such as Arizona United SC and Real Monarchs SLC. As for Seattle they will be looking to record their first win on the road this year, which would see them climb off the bottom of the table.
The Blues next travel to Arizona United SC on June 11th.
