Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
Led by defenseman Dan Weiss and new goaltender Garrett Tinkham, The Springfield Jr. Blues beat first-place powerhouse St. Louis 4-3.
Weiss scored from the deep slot twice, both while on the power play. His first goal came at 5:03 of the second period assisted by Steve Mohler. The second came at 13:04 of the same period, assisted byKyle Greco and Mohler.
The Blues played perhaps their most solid game of the season with only one big mistake -a poor line change-that resulted in a clear breakaway and short-handed goal by the Bandit's Sam Bozoian. Otherwise, it was a huge team effort that had St. Louis on thier heels for a good part of the night.
After St. Louis took an early 1-0 lead, Steve Mohler evened the score with assists from Weiss and Greco. Kyle Greco scored the game winner at 13:59 of the 3rd period, assisted by Matt Globke and Jared Rickord.
New-comer Garret Tinkham made his NAHL debut for the Blues and made a couple of big saves that kept the Blues in the game. The Blues out-shot the Bandits 27-18
" St.Louis has only been beaten 4 times in regulation and 6 times all year", stated assistant coach Eric Ballard. "We have beaten them two of those times. We can play with anyone when we put our minds to it."
St. Louis has not lost two straight all year. Can the Blues change that? We'll see, as the two teams square off again tonight at the Nelson Center at 7pm.
