Brandon, Manitoba - Tip Top Tailors, in conjunction with the Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that veteran defenceman EricRoy has been chosen the Western Hockey League club's Player of the Month for January.

A former first round bantam draft choice of the Wheat Kings, had six goals and eight points in twelve games last month and enters the final month of regular season play with fifteen goals and 35 points in 64 games.

During the month of February, the Beauval Saskatchewan product scored two powerplay goals, one game winner and may have scored the Western Hockey League club's goal of the year - an end to end rush - during last Sunday's loss to the Broncos in Swift Current.

A winner of this award in November, 2011, Roy finished among the league scoring leaders for blueliners in 2011-12. In 182 career WHL games with the Wheat Kings, the former Prince Albert AAA Midget Minto has scored 20 goals and 110 points.

In recognition of the monthly honour, Eric will receive a shirt, tie and suit from Tip Top Tailors in the Shoppers Mall, the official menswear clothier of the Wheat Kings, during one of the team's remaining home games.Roy joins Ryan Pulock, Corbin Boes, AlessioBertaggia and rookie Jayce Hawryluk as this year's Tip Top monthly award winners. Roy and the Wheat Kings will open up a 3-game in three night WHL weekend road trip Friday night in Saskatoon against the Memorial Cup Host Blades. Brandon will follow that up with games on Saturday and Sunday in Prince Albert and Regina respectively.

The Wheat Kings, who have lost five games in a row, will return home next weekend to play Edmonton and Swift Current on Friday and Saturday nights.

Brandon is currently last in the WHL's Eastern Conference with a record of 21-37-4-2, with eight games remaining in its 2012-13 season. The Wheat Kings will miss the playoffs this year, marking the first time since 2000 that Brandon has failed to qualify for the WHL playoff party.
