Bluefish Defeat Riversharks

(Bridgeport, Conn. - June 29, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (20-42) defeated the Camden Riversharks (23-40), 6-4 on Sunday afternoon The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Bridgeport scored the first two runs of the game in the bottom of the first inning on an RBI single by J.R. Towles, which scored James Simmons and then after the ball went under the glove of leftfielder Zack McPhee, Prentice Redman scored as well, while Towles advanced to second the error. After Camden scored one run in the top of the fourth inning the Bluefish added a run of their own in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Simmons, which scored Mike Richard. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, Bridgeport scored three more runs with the big hit coming on a Juan Martinez two RBI double to deep centerfield. The Riversharks then combined for three runs in the seventh and eighth inning highlighted by an RBI double from Ryan Strieby.

Bridgeport starter Jesse English was forced to settle for a no decision going four and two-thirds innings allowing one run, three hits, and four walks with three strikeouts. Bridgeport reliever Jaye Chapman (2-0) picked up the win going an inning and two-thirds not allowing any hits or runs with one walk and one strikeout. Camden starter Pedro Liriano (0-4) suffered the loss going five innings allowing three runs (two earned), seven hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

For the Bluefish, Richard went 3-for-4 with a run scored, while Ramon Castro went 2-for-4.

Bridgeport will start a five game series versus the Long Island Ducks in Central Islip starting tomorrow night. The Bluefish will return to the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on July 7 for their first home game of the second half of the season as they start a three game series against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs with the first pitch scheduled 7:05 p.m.
