April 30, 2016 - Atlantic League (AtL)
New Britain Bees News Release
New Britain scored early, but could not maintain their lead as the Bees dropped a 5-4 decision to the Bridgeport Bluefish on a walk off home run in 11 innings on Saturday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Bees drop to 4-6 on the year, while Bridgeport improves to 5-5 on the season.
New Britain got on the board first, when Greg Golson reached on a two base error in the first and scoring on an RBI single by Jovan Rosa. The Bees added to their tally in the second inning with the bases loaded. Nick Murphy grounded into a double play, but Jon Griffin came around to score the second New Britain run of the game.
Bridgeport would tie the game in the bottom of the second on a pair RBI singles from Rossmel Perez and Luis Nunez against New Britain starter Kyle Simon, but Kevin Rivers gave the Bees the lead again in the fourth. Rivers smacked a 1-2 offering from Bluefish starter David Anderson over the right field wall for his first home run of the season and the first New Britain home run on the road. The Bees added to their lead in the eighth on a Craig Maddox RBI double that scored Greg Golson.
However, Bridgeport tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. A two run single from Nunez with runners on second and third scored the third and fourth Bluefish runs of the game, with both coming off reliever Shawn Haviland, and the Bees and Bridgeport remained knotted into extra innings.
In the 11th, Grady Wood, who retired the first nine batters he faced after entering the game, got the first two outs of the inning before Luis Hernandez drove a ball off the top of the right field wall and out of the park for a walk off home run.
