Bluecats sign Evansville native Sean Bennett

June 16, 2004 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL) - Evansville BlueCats News Release

The Evansville Bluecats are pleased to announce the signing of former Harrison High and University of Evansville star running back Sean Bennett.

Bennett will be reunited with former high school coach Harvey Robbins, now a coach with the Bluecats as well as the Warriors. After receiving AP All-State honors during his prep career at Harrison, Bennett attended the University of Evansville where he was a two-time All-American and Academic All-American for the Purple Aces. He holds seven U of E school records including career rushing yards (2,856), single-season rushing yards (1,667), single-game rushing yards (313), career scoring (234), single-season scoring (122), touchdowns in a season (20) and career touchdowns (39). After Evansville dropped their football program, Bennett transferred to the Big Ten Conference at Northwestern, where he played in every game during his 1998 senior season for the Wildcats.

Bennett, who was a fourth round draft pick by the NFL’s New York Giants in 1999, has had 28 carries for 122 yards and 1 touchdown to go with 5 receptions for 27 yards in his NFL career. Bennett was the Giants’ opening day starter at fullback as a rookie in 1999. A promising rookie season was ended when he missed 6 games due to a knee injury. Injuries also kept him out during the entire 2000-2002 seasons before spending time with the New York Jets and the CFL’s Ottawa Renegades over the past season and a half.

Bennett will look to see his first action as a Bluecat this Saturday as they take on divisional rival Lexington Horsemen in an Atlantic North showdown at 7:05 PM live at “The Fish Bowl” at Roberts Stadium. Specials for the final home game of the season include 103GBF “FREE Father’s Day” (fathers who bring children to the game will attend for FREE), “Carload Night” (6 tickets for $30) and Military ID Night (present military ID for ½ off tickets). The game will also feature $1 hot dogs. For ticket information, call the stadium box office at 812-476-1383 extension 25 or log on to For any other information, please call the Bluecats office at 491-9401.
