
BlueCats Lead Early, but Fall to Horsemen

EVANSVILLE, IN: Despite jumping out to a 14 point lead over the Lexington Horsemen in the 2nd quarter of last Saturday night's game, the BlueCats failed to hold on as Lexington pulled away in the second half for a 62-44 victory over Evansville. The win keeps the Horsemen undefeated at (7-0) on the season while the BlueCats fall to (2-5) on the year, in third place in the division.
Lexington scored first in game on a 45-yard pass play in the first quarter before the BlueCats rolled off 21 straight points in the 1st and 2nd quarters to take a 21-7 lead. The Horsemen managed to put together a pair of quick drives with under two minutes to go in the first half to come back and tie the game at 21 going into halftime.
The BlueCats were unable to overcome two costly turnovers in the second half as the Horsemen intercepted two passes and returned both of them for touchdowns. The game remained close throughout the 3rd quarter, but Lexington was finally able to pull away and put the game out of reach in the 4th quarter.
Quarterback Aaron Leak lead the way for the BlueCats offense as he made his first start for the BlueCats this season and went 15 for 30 passing with 154 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions. Leak was also the leading rusher for Evansville, running for 68 yards on 11 carries and 2 more touchdowns.
Wide Receivers Sean Bennett, Levander Segars, and Levron Williams each had 4 pass receptions in the game. Bennett had the most yards receiving with 50 yards in the game. Segars had 35 yards and two touchdowns, while Williams added 42 yards and one touchdown.
Running back Dale Jennings had 129 all-purpose yards in the game. Jennings had 6 kick returns for 95 yards, 3 pass receptions for 27 yards, and 7 rushing yards with one touchdown.
John Winchester was the leading tackler for the BlueCats with 8 tackles including one tackle for loss, one sack, and one pass break up. Safety Vernon Turner added 6 tackles to the defensive effort. Saturday's game also marked the return of defensive end Demoine Adams who made 3 tackles, including 2 tackles for loss and one sack in the game. Defensive back Damien Jones made his BlueCats debut with 3.5 tackles, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery. Tarron Acuff had 2 more tackles and broke up a pass.
The Horsemen were led by quarterback Eddie Eviston and defensive back William Mulder. Eviston passed for 225 yards and 5 touchdowns. William Mulder had 3 kickoff returns for 67 yards, 2 field goal returns for 67 yards, and one interception return for 34 yards and a touchdown.
This week the BlueCats will be wrapping up a 3 game road trip when they travel to face the Fort Wayne Freedom at War Memorial Coliseum. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, May 20th, at 6:30pm (Evansville time). Last week, the Freedom lost to the Rock River Raptors 49-36.
