UIF Week Eight Recap

ROCK RIVER 49, AT FT. WAYNE 36 - Ryan Aulenbacher connected on 21-of-36 passes for 217 yards and 5 touchdowns as the visiting Rock River Raptors beat Fort Wayne 49-36 Friday night in United Indoor Football action. Aulenbacher got the start, after an injury last weekend in the victory over Bloomington for QB, Ben Sankey. For the Raptors, it's a modest two-game winning streak as they improve to 5-3 on the season and solidify their hold on the Central Division lead. For the host Freedom, its their fifth straight loss as they drop to 3-5. The Freedom held a 12-0 lead after the first quarter, and built it to 22-10 at the half. However, the Raptors scored 24 unanswered points to take a 34-22 lead - a lead they would not relinquish. Johnell Wyatte grabbed 4 passes for 73 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Freedom. Rock River was paced by Jeremiah Thompson with six catches for 55 yards and 2 TD's, Luke McArdle had 6 receptions for 74 yards and a score. Fort Wayne (3-5) hosts Evansville Saturday, Rock River (5-3) will welcome Lexington to the MetroCentre.

IN BLOOMINGTON 59, PEORIA 15 - The Bloomington Extreme (3-4) gain a must need win to stay in play-off contention as the first half of the UIF season comes to a close. Peoria (0-7) remains to be the only team left in the UIF to notch their first victory of the season. For the Extreme, Tom Kudyba filled in for the injured Dusty Burk at the quarterback position. Kudyba completed 17 of 30 passes for 178-yards and three TD's. On the ground, Extreme running back, James Fuller traveled for 63-yards from 8 carries and two touchdowns. For the Rough Riders Phil Taylor and Dodi Wilson were the only two to score in the contest. Defensively, LB Winston Taylor for the Extreme led all players with 11.5 total tackles with 7 solo and 9 assisted. Taylor also had two forced fumbles which he recovered both times. Next week the Extreme travel to the Slaughter House in Omaha and Peoria heads to Wheeling, WV to meet the Ohio Valley Greyhounds.

IN SIOUX FALLS 34, OMAHA 24 - The Sioux Falls Storm (8-0) remain perfect and continue their dominance in the UIF over the last two seasons. The Beef (3-4) took the Storm to the edge as they led at the half, 17-9. Sioux Falls was brought back by Week 7, Offensive Player of the Week, Terrance Bryant as he hit James Terry, Matt Holmlund and Casey Veenhof all for TD passes in the second half. Bryant went for 226-yards passing from 20 of 31 attempts and had four touchdown throws. James Terry had his best individual performance on the year as he caught 8 passes for an amazing 135-yards and 2 TD's. For the Beef, Chuck Wright threw for 190-yards from 18 of 34 passing and 3 touchdowns. Defensively, Mark Blackburn led all players with 9 tackles and one safety for the Storm. Next week the Storm travel to Sioux City and the Beef host the Bloomington Extreme.

IN SIOUX CITY 50, OHIO VALLEY 26 - The Bandits (4-4) continue to notch wins after going 0-3 in the first three weeks of the season. Sioux City dominated the Hounds (2-5) as Ohio Valley cannot get back on track after their two-game winning streak a few weeks ago. The Bandits never trailed in the contest as QB, Troy Travis threw for 166-yards from 13 of 23 passes and three touchdowns. RB, Bobby Ruffin continues to improve every game as he rushed for 55-yards from 12 carries and crossed the goal line once for the score. Defensively, Lewis Daniels from Ohio Valley led all players with 7.5 tackles, 2 pass break-ups, one interception and one fumble recovery that he returned for 13-yards and the touchdown. Sioux City will host the defending Champions, Sioux Falls Storm in the first game back in the Tyson Event's Center since the United Bowl last August. The Greyhounds will host the Rough Riders at Wesbanco Arena in Week 9.

IN LEXINGTON 62, EVANSVILLE 44 - The Evansville BlueCats (2-5) gave the Horsemen (7-0) their second scare of the season this past weekend. Evansville nearly defeated the Horsemen in Roberts Stadium in Week 5 by a score of 33-26. In Week 8, the BlueCats took the Horsemen to half time tied with a score of 21 each. The second half was all Lexington as they outscored the BlueCats, 41-23 in the last two quarters. Eddie Eviston once again put together an All-League performance as he threw for 225-yards from only 15 of 21 pass attempts and had five touchdown completions with no interceptions. Harry Lewis was on the receiving end of three of those TD throws and totaled 84-yards. Evansville quarterback, Aaron Leak threw for 154-yards and three touchdowns, along with 2-interceptions. Leak also rushed for 68-yards and two scores as well. Champ Kelly (LEX) led all players with 8.5 tackles on the night and one pass break-up. Next week the BlueCats travel to Ft. Wayne and Lexington heads to Rock River.
