BlueCats Fall to Horsemen

Evansville BlueCats News Release


EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats (2-6) suffered a 56-31 loss to the Lexington Horsemen (5-3) last Saturday night Roberts Stadium. It was Evansville's second loss of the season to Lexington, and fifth loss in the last six games. The BlueCats fell behind in first quarter when Lexington scored touchdowns on their first two possessions while Evansville was held to two field goal attempts on their first two possessions, connecting on only one of the two. The BlueCats found the endzone early in the second quarter on the first of three Ray Kirkley touchdown runs, but Evansville never managed to close the gap in the second half.

Mistakes proved costly for the BlueCats offense once again, committing 4 turnovers (2 fumbles, 2 interceptions) with two of the turnovers returned by the Horsemen defense for touchdowns. The BlueCats also struggled on 3rd down conversions, going 0 for 8 on the night.

BlueCats quarterback Brent Dearmon made his professional debut and completed 7 of 20 for 69 yards and 2 interceptions. He also rushed for 24 yards.

Running back Ray Kirkley rushed for 24 yards and 3 touchdowns. Kirkley also tossed a 9-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Levron Williams and connected with Dale Jennings on 2-point conversion pass.

Levron Williams finished the game with 2 receptions for 28 yards and a touchdown. Jennings made 2 receptions for 20 yards, and Odest Shannon had 3 receptions for 27 yards.

AJ Bryant was the leading tackler for the BlueCats with 8.5 tackles. Bryant also pulled in an interception, his second of the season. Deion Holts had another solid night, adding 5.5 tackles to his team leading total of 37.5 on the season. Holts had 2 tackles for loss, a sack, and 2 blocked kicks against Lexington. Holts currently ranks 5th overall in the league with 9.5 tackles for loss this season.

The Evansville BlueCats will have a bye week over the Memorial Day weekend and will return to action on Saturday, June 2nd, against the Bloomington Extreme. Lexington travels to play Sioux City next week. The BlueCats will return home on Saturday, June 9th, against the Rock River Raptors.
