Omaha, NE - Rematch weekend is in the books. Sioux Falls earns win #28 in-a-row over Omaha, Colorado edges Sioux City, Rock River rolls over RiverCity; Lexington beats Evansville and Bloomington defeats Ohio Valley.
LEXINGTON (56), EVANSVILLE (31)
At Evansville, IN
The Lexington Horsemen claimed a share of first place in the Eastern Conference with their 56-31 victory Saturday over the Evansville BlueCats at Roberts Stadium. Kewan Dewberry led the Horsemen's offensive charge as he went 17-27 for 161 yards and four touchdowns, all to different receivers. Lexington's defense sacked Evansville's Brent Dearmon once, intercepted him twice, recovered two fumbles, and scored two touchdowns; one on a fumble recovery and one on an interception return. For the BlueCats, Ray Kirkley rushed for three touchdowns and threw for one to Levron Williams. Defensively, A.J. Bryant tallied 8.5 tackles and nabbed an interception on an errant Dewberry pass. This weekend, the Horsemen travel to Sioux City for a showdown with the Bandits while the BlueCats have a bye.
BLOOMINGTON (60), OHIO VALLEY (41)
At Bloomington, IL
The Bloomington Extreme won their franchise-record fourth-in-a-row as they defeated the Ohio Valley Greyhounds Saturday before a crowd of 6,387 at U.S. Cellular Coliseum. Dusty Burk continued his comeback as he completed 18 of 29 passes for 250 yards and five touchdowns-all to James Walton. Dorian Pitts led the defense as he tallied nine tackles (two TFL) and a sack, forced and recovered a fumble and even blocked a kick. For the Greyhounds, the quarterback tandem of Oscar Davenport and Freddy Ray went 28-46 for 275 yards and four touchdowns (Davenport-three, Ray-one). Defensive back Robert Mason made seven tackles and broke up two passes to lead Ohio Valley's defense. This weekend, Bloomington heads to Rockford to take on the Raptors while the Greyhounds have a bye.
ROCK RIVER (55), RIVERCITY (28)
At Rockford, IL
The Rock River Raptors knocked the RiverCity Rage out of first place with a convincing 55-28 win. With the victory, the Raptors are tied with the Lexington Horsemen for first place in the Eastern Conference. Running back Patrick Hall II paced the Raptors' offense with 18 carries for 109 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, Rock River limited the Rage to only 179 yards of total offense. For the Rage, running back Muhammad Abdulqaadir scored two touchdowns. This weekend, Rock River completes a two-game homestand by hosting Bloomington while RiverCity has their first of two byes.
SIOUX FALLS (33), OMAHA (19)
At Sioux Falls, SD
The Sioux Falls Storm sit alone at the top after the team's 33-19 over the Omaha Beef Saturday at the Sioux Falls Arena. With the win, the Storm now have the most wins in a row at any level of professional football with 28. Marques Smith led the offensive charge as he rushed for 83 yards and two touchdowns; he added 19 receiving yards and another touchdown to give him 20 on the year. Mark Blackburn led the Storm defense with his 10.5 tackles (one TFL), recovered a fumble, intercepted John McMenamin (ran it back 13 yards for a touchdown) and also broke up two passes. For the Beef, they were led by defensive back Dustin Creager and running back R.J. Rollins. Creager made 6.5 tackles, intercepted Terrance Bryant once, and broke up a pass. Rollins contributed 95 all-purpose yards (20-rush, 14-receiving and 61-kickoff returns). This weekend, Sioux Falls has a bye as the Beef welcome the Billings Outlaws to the Omaha Civic Auditorium.
COLORADO (21), SIOUX CITY (12)
At Loveland, CO
The Colorado Ice edged back over the .500 mark with their 21-12 win over the Sioux City Bandits Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center. The Ice were led by running back Eugene Reed and linebacker Ryan Palmer. Reed rushed for 56 yards and two touchdowns (both coming in the fourth quarter) to lead the offense. Palmer led the defensive charge with 14 tackles; a defense that didn't allow the Bandits to score in the second half. Mike Donato completed 17 of 28 passes for 148 yards and added a rushing touchdown to lead the Bandits' offense. Defensive back Mike Winklepeck tallied six tackles and also intercepted Ice quarterback Matt Guiterrez once. This weekend, Colorado has their first bye of the season while Sioux City welcomes the Lexington Horsemen to the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena.
