
BlueCats Back From Bye Week, Set to Battle Beef

EVANSVILLE, IN: This weekend the Evansville BlueCats (2-4) will travel to Omaha, Nebraska to take on the Omaha Beef (3-4) on Sunday afternoon for a Mother's Day football game with kickoff set for 3:30pm. This game marks the only scheduled meeting between Evansville and Omaha this season as well as the first game on Mother's Day in Evansville BlueCats history. Evansville owns a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series between these two teams, with the most recent meeting coming last July 15th in the first round of the UIF playoffs, a game the BlueCats won 37-15 at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. This Sunday's game can be heard live on News-Talk 1280 WGBF-AM and on the web at www.103gbfrocks.com with the voice of the BlueCats, Jimmie Ford, on play-by-play. The pregame show begins at 3:10pm.
The BlueCats did not play last weekend and enjoyed their first bye week of the season. Two weeks ago, the BlueCats earned their first road win of the season when they defeated the Ohio Valley Greyhounds 51-45 in Wheeling, West Virginia. The Beef lost 36-29 to the Sioux City Bandits last weekend.
Evansville currently leads the league in rushing offense, and will enter Sunday's game averaging 88.7 yards per contest. Omaha enters the game with the league's best rushing defense, having only allowed an average of only 41.1 yards on the ground so far this season.
The BlueCats running game is led by running back Ray Kirkley who's rushed for 282 yards so far this season, good for fourth best in the league. Kirkley has also rushed for 8 touchdowns.
BlueCats quarterback Haven Mosley has passed for 356 yards, 6 touchdowns, and only 3 interceptions in 3 games since taking over as the BlueCats starting quarterback.
Odest Shannon and Richard Johnson have combined to make one of the best kick return tandems in indoor football. Each player has returned two kickoffs for touchdowns already this season, and as a team, the BlueCats currently lead the league with 5 total kick return touchdowns in their first 6 games. Shannon has also scored two receiving touchdowns this season, while Johnson has also scored on two rushing touchdowns, one touchdown reception, and passed for two touchdowns becoming the first player in team history to have scored a touchdown 4 different ways.
